Industry Update: Truckload Capacity Tightening Up!!!

by George Muha on March 22, 2010

News From the Front Lines of the Truckload Sector

Word on the street is the truckload sector starting to notice capacity really starting to tighten up.  It’s getting harder and harder for shippers to find trucks and many truckload carriers are taking increases.

Even the big national brokers are loosening the noose on rates to carriers.  Just in the last three weeks, trucking companies have been able to dictate pricing to these brokerage houses because of this tide change.

Shippers that have extremely low rates in place need to take warning.  Carriers have been missing pickups or forcing their customers to take an immediate rate hike because of this shift.

This is a good time for shippers to start befriending some of those other carriers and brokers that have been pestering them in recent months.  Quickly setting up a “Plan B” or a “Plan C” is a good idea so shippers do not get stuck with freight on their docks that they cannot move.

Are you noticing this shift in your business?

I hope trucking capacity has loosened up now, it’s almost a year since this has been posted :)
